About Renee

Family:

I was raised in the picturesque town of Barker, New York, situated on the shores of Lake Ontario in Western New York. I  take pride in being the daughter of William and Karen Jordan, both integral members of our loving and industrious family of six. William is a retired truck driver turned passionate photographer, and Karen is the dedicated office manager of a local dentist. Their strong work ethic has profoundly influenced my journey as a person and an attorney.

Academic and Athletic Achievements:

A standout in academics and athletics, I pursued my education at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. As a member of the Women’s Division 1 Swim Team, I was the captain of the team during my Junior and Senior years. As a first in my family, I graduated from college in 2000 with a dual degree in Spanish and International Relations. My educational journey continued at Campbell University Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, where I fell in love with North Carolina and made Raleigh my forever home, graduating in 2005.

Professional Journey:

Post-law school, I committed my career to public service as a criminal defense attorney for over 18 years, with 16 of those years dedicated to Wake County. Specializing in representing indigent clients, I've handled a multitude of cases, including traffic offenses, misdemeanors, and serious felony charges such as rape and murder. Notably, I served as President  and Vice President of the Wake County Academy of Criminal Trial Lawyers and received accolades like the Rising Star for North Carolina Super Lawyers and the Randolph J. Hill Award in 2018.

Judicial Qualities: With 18 years of courtroom practice, I bring invaluable insights to the bench:

  • The Ability to Listen: Recognizing the importance of actively listening to everyone who appears before the court in the often daunting courtroom.

  • Dignity: It is important to respect each and every person that appears in a judge’s courtroom, demonstrated through years of treating individuals from diverse backgrounds with the compassion and dignity they deserve.

  • Efficiency: Understanding the significance of time in the expansive Wake County courts, I will prioritize timely and efficient proceedings in order to respect everyone involved.

Life Outside the Courthouse:
Beyond legal endeavors, I cherish time with my boyfriend, loved ones, friends, and my rescue Pit Bull, Bonnie. Adventure and the outdoors fuel my passions, evident in my extensive hiking experiences across the United States and Europe. Committed to community service, I've contributed to holiday drives for the less privileged and raised substantial funds for the Saint Baldrick’s Foundation. I'll always love my Buffalo Bills, but there's truly nothing like North Carolina during ACC Basketball season!
